COBIA HOLE 01/09/08
At the North East end of Watsons Bay in 16 meters is a rocky out crop of dead coral. It deosn’t look much but there are heaps of very tame fish there no doubt tamed from the many encounters with Lizard Island resort guests who use it as an easy dive location and for night diving.
3 DAYS DIVING @ RIBBON REEFS 3 & 5 06/09/08
Three days of diving, three of the best diving days in my life. i have dived over fifteen times but nothing made me ready for these days. first dive was at the bottom of ribbon reef five and it was quite nice, we saw some real tame fish close up but we didn’t see anything completely out of the ordinary. Second dive was Steve’s bommie which dad had dived at and seem some nice fish and he wanted me to see it. I went in first and was shocked at the huge schools of fish that were there. I went down to the bottom and in this little small cave i saw a lion fish, Red Fire fish, and I was so AMAZED I saw only its face untill dad came and it started to swim. I saw these great nemos and i was in love with the place.
The second day we went to a different place which was great with heaps of tame fish and it was a wall dive and it was very clear. After that we were going to go back to Steve’s bonmie but dad put the hookah upside down ( motor running) into the ocean and totally stuffed it for the day.
Third day we went back to steve bomie and saw the same things. but the Trout there were so tame, they loved you. and we even saw an incredible Stone Fish thanks to my perfect eyes. it was the best dive I have ever had.
ESCAPE @ ESCAPE REEF
We are always very careful anchoring on the reef. Always anchoring 2 hours before sunset and keeping a very close eye out for bommies & making sure our swing path will be clear during the night ……but having anchored here several time previously we were a bit slack and woke in the morning next to a large bommie. It was amazing how we never swung onto at some time in the night. Good wake up reminder of the dangers when anchoring in Bommie territory!! Anyhow being in 25 meters of water next to a bommie meant we didn’t have to go far for a dive and snorkel!
