FIVE BAYS
After leaving the windy anchorage of Cabo de La Vela we headed for 5 Bays – 120 miles of fast down wind sailing- It wasn’t the most pleasant of trips as the seas were lumpy with large wave sets coming through every few minutes – at least the wind dropped during the night which helped us control the speed a bit.
As you get close to our next anchorage you are meant to be able to see a back drop of snow covered mountains. Unfortunately the visibility was very hazy so we missed out in seeing the only snow in the Caribbean!
Our final destination was Bahia Guayraca the middle of the Five Bays, it consists of a deep fjord like valley with a very sheltered anchorage at the end of it. Yet again the people very helpful and friendly, and eight of us had a great lunch in a small restaurant of deep fried snapper cooked over an open fire washed down with gallons of beer.
