ESCAPE REEF, from Andy
Escape Reef was my favorite because we got great fishing, me catching a nice Sweetlip & two sharks and dad catching bait, although he did catch a big mackerel early morning while i was having my beauty sleep!! I also became friends with a little bird 🙂 . The diving was ok at Walters Patch Reef, seeing large beds of staghorn coral. A lot of nemo fish were there but the visabilty wasn’t too great. There was a really big turtle laying on the sandy bottom in 13meters of water, he sat still for a while then took off really fast like a big bird flapping its wings! We also saw minkle whales as well, and I saw them whilst in the water, but no one else did .
LENA REEF, from Andy
We went diving at the very northern end of Lena reef, although I wasn’t feeling very good but went diving anyways. Here we saw lots of fish even though the water wasn’t that great. The nemo life there was very good. We saw many Steephead Parrot fish which were huge and saw a school of weid looking Unicorn Fish as well. The currents there were very strong .
RIBON REEF 2, THE SNAKE PIT, from Andy.
The snorkeling here was amazing. The water just got clearer and clearer. The fish life was bizarre. Fish didn’t swim away, they stayed still making great photos. We saw a Maori Wrasse and two Cuttlefish. It felt amazing in the water. Everything was so bright and so clear, it was one of the best dives I have ever been on.
RIBON REEF 3, STEVES BOMMIE, from Dad!
Andy was a bit chilled so I( dad) dived this amazing bommie myself . About 35 meters straight down surrounded by schools of Big Eye Trevally & beautifull bright yellow Seaperch. Around them darted large palagics like Mackeral, big GT’s and Barracuda. Really great diving with good visibility & nice reef fish as well. Gotta come back here when Andy can dive it with me as well….Wahoo!!
