DAY 5 – GALAPAGOS TO THE MARQUISES – SOMEWHERE IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN
Day 5 and all is well on the good ship Innforapenny. The trade winds have definitely kicked in – giving us a 15 to 20 knot wind from the south east. The only problem is the sea and the swell has increased, which means we have to reduce sail to stop us being thrown around so much. We are still doing between 8 to 9 knots, which keeps our 200 mile day average going.
Since we left, besides the fishing boats we haven’t seen another vessel and the yachts we left with from the Galapagos islands our now 125 to 400 miles behind us (I bet they wish they had a Lightwave!!!).
In the first couple of days there were a few birds around the boat, but they seemed to have left now as we are nearly 1000 miles from land. Even the marine life has been a bit sparse- with a few dolphins and flying fish; we have flying fish and squid on our deck every morning. Penny woke up a couple of nights ago to find one squid on her pillow and one in the bed. They came through the open hatch. She wasn’t impressed and guess who had to get rid of them??
