THAILAND
Monday 25 December, 2006 – 11:42
We have now been in Thailand for nearly 2 weeks – not that we have had much time for relaxing. We had to slip the boat and get it anti fouled, which in itself is a full time job – nothing much happens unless you are there hassling all the time. We spent about 3 days trying to find the man for the job and then had to organize for the paint to be brought out from Australia. Fortunately Pete’s mum Sally was coming for a visit and she was able to bring it with her.. The boat is going back in the water Christmas Day so I can’t see us partaking in the usual Chrissy day festivities until we get it launched.
Cynthia arrived late on the 13th – we didn’t give her much time to recover from the flight as within 2 hours of her landing we were at Patong Beach the flesh pot of Phuket. First stop was a drink in one of the girlie bars and then on to the “ping pong and dart show” !!!. We were determined to show her some of Thailand’s Lady Boys, but some how ended up in a gay bar – it was certainly an eye opener. I know all the guys in our party stayed really close to Penny and Cynthia just incase any of the clientele got the wrong idea.
On the 15th we headed up for a few days to Chang Mai in the north Thailand. Here we did the usual tourist things – elephant riding, white water rafting and trekking in the jungle. We even spent a night in one of the hill tribe villages where slept on a mattress on the floor of a thatched hut and cooked on an open fire. The villagers are very simple people who are extremely self sufficient and are brilliant at improvising – for how long it will stay like that is any ones guess as the village was just about to get electricity! – If you are ever thinking of coming to Thailand that’s the place to go(Chang Mai). The climate is a lot better, it’s cheaper and not so touristy, plus it’s a really beautiful place.
Once the boat is back in the water we will be heading for Krabie to celebrate New Year and from there we are leaving for Sri Lanka.
We would like to wish all our friends and family and faithful blog followers a Merry Christmas and Happy New year
