KUPANG
Have completed our first leg of the journey out of Oz and, after a very smooth passage, arrived in Kupang this morning and anchored outside Teddies bar. Had a full moon to light our way, sailed for only 12 hours of a 74 hour trip, but it was a very enjoyable journey on a silken sea with stunning sunsets and sunrises, and at one stage, hundreds of dolphins cruising under our bows and giving a magic display of leaping completely clear of the water. Caught a number of fish, but put most of them back as they were either not good eating or we were unsure what they were. But they were BIG!!!!! Have cleared quarantine, customs and our passports are away being stamped til tomorrow, so we are just about able to head off to the rest of Indo as we please. This place is a typical south east asian town, with lots of rubbish in the water and on the shore, now made worse with our own shit that had blocked the main toilet and Peter and Howard spent the entire afternoon clearing and dumping overboard. The rest of us spent the afternoon trying to navigate prices and places around the town, with limited success. People are friendly but small. (signed Damit Janet)
