TOWNSVILLE
After leaving Upstart Bay we headed for Cape Bowling Green the half way point between Townsville. Before we had gone too far we discovered the port steering cable had gone again – not happy Jan!!! Spoke to Roger at Lightwave and gave him the good news. Decided to by pass Cape Bowling as it was too rolly polly. Headed straight to Townsville and arrived at 11.00 that night.
In the morning we got some good news – Lightwave had discovered why the steering kept breaking. It seems the plastic stops the cable manufacturers were using were all cracked even before thay had been put into a boat. Richard arrived Thursday night with new parts and worked all Friday to fix the steering and install our new electric winch.
While we waited for the boat to be fixed we explored Townsville. We were both impressed with the council here – they are really pro active. The towns parks and main city centre are so beautiful and well cared for. We do a circuit walk of 5ks and every 100m there is a gym aparatus. It might be somewhere to do push ups or squats or neck raisers or step. Can you imagine Gosford council laying that on? I dont think so.. Also on route are some coffee spots, bubblers so you dont have to carry a bottle, bbq areas that are pristine. it is a really lovely place. I went into town while all the work was being done on the boat. Had a leg wax etc. I never thought pain could feel so great. One tends to go a little feral at sea and it feels fantastic to become femnine again. I also coloured my hair and got rid of all those grey suckers. I was going to let it go but am not quite ready for that yet
