DJIBOUTI

We have all arrived safely in Djibouti; as far as I’m aware no one was raped or pillaged on route. Except for one incident the last 900 miles was uneventful, motoring or motoring/sailing all the way. On the last night we spotted 2 lights going very fast across out bows and then proceeded to follow us for an half an hour. We immediately closed formation. It was decided to try and contact the Coalition navy on channel 16 – which was of no avail and then we tried phoning The French navy in Bahrain, but they only work in office hours as there was no reply. Anyway after a change of course and speeding up we seemed to lose them. It was probably nothing sinister – but at the time it certainly increased the heart rate.
Our first experience of Djibouti was at the local Arab market which to say the least extremely colourful with its sights and sounds (and smells!) of Africa. You can even buy a live goat or chicken – it is certainly preferable to buying meat off the stalls; you would have got more blow flies than meat for your money. Tomorrow we are all going on a four wheel drive into the desert and lunch at a local Bedouin, before Richard and Kristen fly home on Saturday.
