BACK IN CRETE
We have arrived back in Crete to continue our cruising.
We have 12 knots of wind, calm seas and a warm sunny day as we beat to windward. It’s so good to be back on the water as we head for Santorini, about 70 miles north of Crete.
As you can gather, we arrived safely in Greece after a trying 36 hour flight from Australia, but were suitably recharged ready for the northern hemisphere summer.
The first week was spent in the marina of Aghios Nikolaos, fixing and checking all the systems on the boat and then a short trip to Spinalonga about 6 miles up the coast – nothing too strenuous for our first day back cruising. We enjoyed a final night ashore in Crete with David and Susan (Stella) at Georgio’s taverna eating grouper and anchovies and drinking lots of red wine and Raki..Our plans have some what changed – rather than join the next rally leaving Gibraltar in October we have decided to take it easy and enjoy the Med for year or so and think about crossing the Atlantic in November 2008 to continue our circumnavigation.
This year we hope to explore Greece, Turkey and may be Croatia. Nothing too taxing!!
