LANGKAWI
Monday 04 December, 2006 – 13:33
Today we loaded 8 cases of beer and 2 cases of wine onto the boat Langkawi is a duty free island and a haven for yachties. The idea is that it’s meant to last until we get to the Med. This I think is very unlikely, as we should be doing well if we don’t run out by Sri Lanka!!!
We met up with Terry and Jan from Ridgee Didge (fellow Lightwave owner’s) in the marina at Rebak resort – we had a few beers and compared warranty claims – (only joking Roger!!).
For the last few days we have been exploring the islands around Langkawi – we did some good diving on the south side of the island. One of our guests on board, Winton saw a 1m shark and wasn’t too phased about it until a short time afterwards he saw the daddy shark. He estimated it to be at least 3m long but couldn’t identify it as he didn’t see it’s head, only the rest of its body as it swam past him!!
Now we are exploring yet another ‘hole in the wall’, a mangrove creek that opens up to form a spectacular large enclosed circular anchorage. From there the mangrove creeks lead to a number of limestone caves. We were able to drive the dinghy through the caves and come out into a fifferent river system
Tomorrow we head for the Butang Group of islands, about 40 miles away and the southern most island group in Thailand.
